A few weeks ago we received this invitation...
We told Makena and Megan where we were going but I don't think they fully understood. We heard that quite a few kids were going to wear costumes so we let the kids were their Halloween costumes. Clifford, Pongo and the Scarecrow loved our astronaut, Everett. I seriously had to pull him away so they would stop oohing and aahing over him. I think he was pretty enthralled by them, too.
Each child was given an autograph book and pen when they went in. We lucked up and were seated with our friends Clara and Anna. (The pics from the character breakfast aren't great. I'm a little frustrated with my camera.) There really aren't any good pictures of my poor Pooh Bear. I'll tell you why on the next blog post.
Check out all the different characters that were at the breakfast!
Makena managed to get everyone's autograph. Megan didn't like a few of the characters so she missed a few. She didn't care for Darth Vader or the storm trooper nor did she like Captain Jack Sparrow. Tinkerbell was pretty cute. Her mom was standing nearby watching her sign autographs.
Makena and Megan love Princess and the Frog so we were glad to see Princess Tiana there!
Bolt from the Winston-Salem Dash was there, too! When they introduced him he was bouncing all over the place. Phil said he looked like he had drank one too many Red Bulls. :)
They each got a hug from Bolt!
We'll take a Deacon fix any chance we can get!
Saturday turned out not to be a great day for Megan. Looking at her here it is reminiscent of her birthday last year. You can check that blog entry
here. Here are the girls with Glenda, the Scarecrow, Dorothy (& Toto!) and the Lion from the Wizard of Oz. I think the Lion was still signing our autograph book.
Makena decided that she liked Spiderman. Megan, not so much.
We love Spidey!
Makena thought Captain Jack was a silly character. When I took the picture he told Makena to make her very best pirate face. I'm not really sure that she made her best pirate face but Captain Jack certainly did make her laugh.
No matter how much they've grown they still love Elmo!
Cinderella was Makena's favorite princess last year.
I thought the Mad Hatter had a pretty cool costume. Alice and the Queen of Hearts were also there but I didn't get any great pictures with them.
Makena and Megan both liked the White Rabbit because it reminded them of Potty!
I snapped a quick picture of Makena after she had gotten autographs from The Nutcracker characters.
This year Makena's favorite princess is Snow White. Which you may have already been able to figure out by looking at her costume. And of course Megan likes Snow White because Makena likes Snow White.
If my camera had been cooperating this would have been the best picture. We were almost finished getting autographs when I realized that I hadn't gotten hardly any with Everett. So I asked Darth Vader if he could hold a baby. He nodded yes so I plopped Everett in his hands. (Everett tinkled on his astronaut costume moments earlier and had to have a wardrobe change.) Everett loved Darth Vader! (He was really tall as he should be.) Everett was smiling and kicking up a storm. There were strangers behind us taking pictures of them together so if a good one turns up on the RMH website I'll post it on the blog!
Makena got Padme Amidala's autograph. If you look to the left side of the picture you can see Darth Vader's storm trooper. Megan didn't care to see any of them. She said, "I don't like the robots."
Ronald McDonald was the last character we saw. He definitely gave the best autographs. He wrote his name but also drew a picture of himself. Makena and Megan both called him Old MacDonald a couple of times. :)
Makena and Megan each got a giant lollipop and a Ronald MacDonald cookie before they left.
I'm so glad we were able to take the kids to such a fun event! I think it was an excellent idea and great way to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House!
