Washington DC: Part 2

Our friends, the Steadmans, came up to DC for a couple of days to see the sights with us. They lived there for a month during Brent's training and were excellent tour guides. Makena and Megan were so happy to have Beck there to play with. How fun to have a 2 day play date in our nations capital! The kids and I hung around the town center Saturday morning. We waited until the afternoon to venture into Washington. We took a bus to the Metro and took the Metro into DC. We found out, while on the Metro, that the line we were using was being worked on which made our commute into the city a little more complicated. This was the kids' first time using public transportation. They loved the bus and the Metro! Since it was Columbus Day weekend, some of the museums had extended hours. And we decided to go to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Here is Makena in front of the Easter Island Head
Megan and Makena with the elephant. Megan loves elephants!
Here is Makena, Megan and Beck with the skeleton of a sea turtle. There were a ton of fossils to see!
This is Makena (with Megan in the background) with a mighty T-Rex. After returning to preschool this week, Makena told me that she and her friends found a dinosaur bone in the sand box. I told her that was quite a find! Could we have a future paleontologist on our hands?
Here are Makena and Megan with the giant whale. It looks like Makena is doing a plie in this picture. Someone must be enjoying dance class!
The kids were pooped at the end of the day. Here are the girls with Beck on the bus back to the hotel.
We really enjoyed the Natural History Museum. We got to see the Hope Diamond and a pretty neat bug and butterfly exhibit. There is still more to come!
