My mom had a day off from work earlier this week. So I let the kids play hookie from from preschool so we could tag along with my parents and go to Boone and Blowing Rock. It was considerably cooler up there. We had a lot of fun and did some much needed shopping (for fall and winter clothes) at the Shoppes on the Parkway. The highlight for the girls was a stop at Mast General Store in Boone. They loved seeing the barrels and barrels of candy everywhere. I tried to limit them, as Halloween is just around the corner. But if I had let them they would have filled their buckets to the brim.
We ate dinner at one of our favorite places in Boone, the Dan'l Boone Inn. They have family style country cooking and have been honored in Our State and Southern Living magazines for their yummy food. Makena and Megan loved the giant bear outside. We love visiting Boone and Blowing Rock and hope to go back again in a week or two to see the beautiful changing leaves.
