On Sunday, our final day in DC, we decided to go on an open top, double-decker bus tour. It was a lot of fun and we got to see a lot so I highly recommend it if you are ever there. The bus has approximately 30 stops and you can hop on and off at any of them. And with your receipt, you can use your ticket for 2 days. I would definitely consider doing the bus tour again the next time we go to DC. We were coming home Sunday afternoon, so we only hopped off once. Our tour started at Union Station which was pretty impressive itself.

All of us on the double-decker bus tour.
Even though we only got off once, we got to see so much of Washington. Some of the stops included: the National Portrait Gallery, Arlington National Cemetery & the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Smithsonian Museums and several other memorials. We had a great view of the U.S. Capitol building.
We went by Ford's Theatre where Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth.
I told the girls that the President also has two little girls. To which Megan asked, "Are their names Makena and Megan?" I couldn't help but giggle. Once Megan learned that Barack Obama also had two little girls she decided that she wanted to go to his house to play. We told her that we couldn't just walk up and ring the door bell. We joked about it saying, Mr. President, can Sasha and Malia come out and play? :) Of course, no DC tour would have been complete without a drive by The White House.

We saw Marine One while we were standing outside the Lincoln Memorial. I heard Barack was campaigning in Philadelphia that day.
Makena took this picture of Megan.
The only place we hopped off was the Lincoln Memorial.
Our family and Beck with Honest Abe.
We bought a couple of cute kids books while we were in DC. We got Dr. Seuss' There's No Place Like Space and Clifford Goes to Washington. In the book, Clifford climbs the Washington Monument. Here are the girls pretending to be Clifford.
We had such a great time in Washington! It was like a mini-vacation. I love doing touristy things and getting to see all the sights. I can't wait to take the kids back when they're a little older. I'm sure they'll have a much greater appreciation for it all then!
