Sometime last year we asked Makena what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her answer was, "a piano singer." We are lucky to have a wonderful lady in our neighborhood that gives piano lessons and Makena decided she wanted to give it a try. And so she started taking piano lessons last summer. We thought summer would be a good trial period. If she liked it we could continue and if not we could move on to something else. She liked it, of course, and is still taking lessons every week. Mrs. Kevin, her piano teacher, had the kids learn Christmas music and put on a Christmas recital. Makena had been practicing her songs for a few weeks. She played Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, The Snowman and a song called Waltzing on F. We had our sitter come to watch Everett so we could sit back and enjoy the show.
Makena was definitely nervous. She was the youngest kid there by far and most of the kids had been playing for years. One kid, who looked like he was probably in high school, played a beautiful song on the piano (from memory, without reading music) and then played another song on his saxophone. It was a very talented group of kids. Once Makena got up there she did great. She played her songs very well.....especially considering she just started piano lessons 6 months ago!
Kevin is great with kids. Makena loves her and having the lessons here in the neighborhood is so convenient.
Makena had also told Mrs. Kevin about reading her polar bear story on the news at school. So she had Makena tell the crowd a few things she had learned about polar bears.
She took a little bow at the end. :)
I think Mrs. Kevin had 3 different recitals that day so these are just the kids that performed at the same time as Makena. As you can see Makena is the smallest by far. :)

Since we already had the sitter for Everett, we decided to take the girls, Popaw, G-Dada and Patty out to the Japanese Steakhouse after the recital. We had only taken the girls once before and they really enjoyed it.
