The Race Car Bed & The Fire Station

Everett had gotten out of his crib occasionally before Finley was born. We knew he could do it but he hadn't made a habit out of it until I was in the hospital. The kid would not stay in his crib. He could get out and back in at will. And even put a big show on for us one day....getting in and out at least a dozen times. We were hoping to wait a while before switching him out of his crib but decided we should go ahead and do it now before he paralyzed himself. So the week Finley was born we also switched Everett to a big boy bed. We didn't want him in a big bed yet so went with a race car bed. He loves cars so we thought it might also make the transition a little easier. We found the bed at Walmart.com and did sight to store shipping. I found some Cars sheets and a decorative pillow at Target. And we picked up a twin mattress from Costco. It's not the classy Pottery Barn Kids that the girls have but if it keeps him in the bed I don't really care.

Can you tell the girls were excited about it, too? They were asking if they could sleep in it!
We didn't put a box spring in it so it dips down a little bit preventing him from rolling out during the night.
He's doing better going to bed at night but the naps are gone. That is unless he falls asleep in the car or something. It just became too big of a battle to do more than once a day. Either Phil or I have been staying in his room until he falls asleep, which usually doesn't take long. We'll read a couple of books and then I'll rub his back and he'll pass out. For now it's better that way. When we've tried to leave him awake he either flips out or gets up and plays.
Phil was off for a week after Finley was born. And then my mom came the second week. She went with us to see the movie, Brave, to wildlife night at Chick-fil-a, to the library, and to a special lunch at Old McDonalds. She also went with us to a playdate at the fire station. I just knew Everett would love going to the fire station but of course he got shy and shut down when we got there. He talked about the fire trucks afterward so I guess he still enjoyed it. :)
This is the best shot I could get of Everett at the fire station. I guess he was still traumatized from the arrival of his little sister.
Megan was the only one who wanted to get inside the fire truck. I'm glad someone had a good time!! :)
