Everett Turns ONE!

Everett had his first birthday on March 2nd! I can't believe a year has already passed since our sweet little guy joined the family. Unfortunately, poor Everett was under the weather on his birthday. Today was the 3rd Monday in a row that I've taken Everett to the pediatrician. Today was his 1 year check up but he also wasn't feeling well. The first Monday I took him to the doctor he had an infection in his left ear. The second Monday, the infection just wasn't going away and he was developing a rash. He's been grumpy, not sleeping well and messing with his other ear. So of course, when I took him in today the doctor found an infection in the other ear! So now we begin his third week of antibiotics. His pediatrician said that if this doesn't clear it up we'll probably have to do antibiotic shots next. After completing this new medicine he will have been on some kind of antibiotic for 24 days! I feel sorry for his poor GI system! We think the rash he developed last week was due to the amoxicillin he was on at the time. They said it was a side effect and not necessarily an allergic reaction. He had it all over his face, arms and trunk. The rash stuck around for his birthday, which also happened to be picture day at MMO! He was a grumpy mess and looked terrible so he missed preschool that day. This is what he looked like last Tuesday:
With the help of benadryl, tylenol and ibuprofen, Everett was feeling and looking a little bit better for his birthday.
He loves the dancing monkey we got him. He'll bounce along to the music or just pick him up and give him a big hug.
He got a new basketball and football from us for his birthday. We broke out our old basketball hoop so he could work on his skills.
We took everyone out to our local Mexican restaurant for Everett's birthday dinner. I think we kind of needed to just get out of the house after being cooped up for a while. I was afraid to take Everett anywhere for a few days because he had a cold. And coupled with the yucky rash he had I'm sure everyone would think he had something terrible. We've sang to Everett a few times for his birthday and it's funny to watch him get bashful. Sometimes he'll even try to hide his face. :)
His apetite hasn't been that great over the last couple of weeks so I wasn't surprised when he didn't dig into the cake. He did get a couple of spoonfuls of icing, though!
We let him open a couple of gifts after dinner.
Everett is growing up so fast! He is walking all over the place and is getting into everything! He still crawls occasionally and is really fast when he does. His favorite words are Mama and uh-oh but can also say bye-bye, Dada, ba-ba (bottle), eh-mo (elmo) and nuh-uh which he usually says while shaking his head no. :) He is a sweet boy and is a big hugger. And he seems to be attracted to blonde women. :) He still doesn't really care to sit still for an entire book unless he isn't feeling well. He loves balls and likes to be chased by his sisters. He is a picky eater right now but part of that could be because he hasn't felt good for a few weeks. His current favorite foods are chicken, yogurt, applesauce, bread or pancakes, and oranges. At the pediatrician today he was 21.7 lb., 32" long with a head circumference was 19 1/8". His weight is in the 30th percentile on the growth chart, dropping off a little from last time, a presume because he's now walking. His height and head circumference however, are in the 96 and 97th percentile on the growth chart! I also think he's outgrowing his 5 1/2 wide shoes so he's got big feet, too!
