Our Loss

We wanted to tell you all, in case you haven't already heard, that we lost our beloved pet rabbit, Potty last month. I went out to check on her one morning and she wasn't moving. We had Potty as our pet for around 2 years. One of Phil's former attendings told him they had a ton of rabbits when his kids were little and none of them lasted more than 6 months. So I guess if you think about it that way, we did pretty good with our first family pet. We had a hard time deciding what to tell the girls and finally told them the truth. I cried, like an idiot, when Phil told them because I knew they didn't fully understand. Phil buried her in the backyard in an Amazon box. The girls wanted to go outside and "see Potty" so we went and were apart of our first pet funeral. As soon as Potty was in the ground Megan asked, "When can we put Potty back in her cage?" And when we tried to explain (again) that Potty wasn't coming back tears started flowing. They still miss their little bunny but they're definitely not scarred by it and I am glad we told them the truth. I smile a little when I hear Megan tell someone, "Potty got dead. Potty's in Heaben." Now whenever they're in the backyard they go over and say hello to Potty. They even made a cake for her when it snowed. I wanted to share some of our favorite pictures of the kids with Potty.
